Marking of Cables

Some customers mistakenly order Blue, Red or White stripe cables. Given that SABS 1507 is compulsory (see Technical Bulletin 02) it is mandatory for such cables to have the following construction characteristics

Reduced flame propagation	FR	Red	The CABLE must comply to certain Fire Retardant characteristics. This may require insulation, bedding and sheath to be special Fire Retardant materials.
			ADDITIONAL requirements for Fire Retardant cable
Reduced halogen emission and reduced flame propagation	LHFR	Blue	BEDDING AND SHEATHING must give off less than 15% of halogen gas when burnt
No halogen, Reduced smoke emission and reduced flame propagation	NHLSFR	White	The halogen gas emission from ANY of the components of the finished cable must be less than 0.5% when burnt.
